The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

I can't be the only one who reports tons of spam messages on my deviations per day. It is especially bad on Wednesdays when I release a TZP photo. This has to be driving everyone nuts. I've been waiting for about two weeks before whining.. but doesn't seem DA has found a fix for it yet. I really hope they can solve this. It would appear some kind of bot system has found an exploit in the DA registration and comment posting code. It definitely ruins some of the experience of this site. Just awful.

I wish DA $taff would place a Report option per comment so we can all help those with the spam problems. I think best I could try to do is put in a suggestion over in Beta Forums or where ever it can go.

DA has a system to block user who post multiple msgs in quick succession. But I don't know how many msgs are needed to be reported as spam before they shut down the account. It would be nice to know.

I think I have been hit with spam just once. If you're more popular, you're bound to be a target for the spammers. It's a problem that's always been around, but I don't know if there's a particular reason that you've targeted all the more, all of a sudden. Is it related to the increasing exposure of The Zelda Project or something else? Perhaps a request to the dA admins can help, try to see if they are targeting you specifically or if there's an unrelated cause for the sudden spike in spam.

I'm not sure what else the community can do to help, sadly.

I never get any spam, but I'm nowhere near as good as you.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the spammers that aren't bots are people trying to get pageviews and watchers from being seen on your page.
I hope dA will get it fixed so you don't have to deal with them flooding your inbox anymore.
