DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT ME IN THE PHOTO!! THIS IS MY SISTER LEAH!!
This is the costume of Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) that I made for my 17 year old sister Leah. Leah looks alot like me so people mistake her for me. This is not me in the photo, this is Leah my sister.
This wig was fun to make. I wanted to get the bangs similar to the bangs how they do at Disneyland but I wasn't able to accomplish that. I do like how the curls came out. I made the ringlets by taking a straight wig and adding rollers, then dunking the wig in boiling water.
This dress actually has 16 gores in it, and underneith she is wearing a corset that is squeezing her waist down to 23 inches. We decided that she needed an unnaturally small waist because Aurora had one in the movie. It needed to be victorian-small... so I kicked out a corset for her in a few hours.
I LOVE THIS!!! She looks spot on! You mentioned using rollers and then dipping the wig into boiling water...can this be done with a synthetic wig or would the wig have to be human hair? SIMPLY AMAZING JOB!
Your sister is, to put it simply, gorgeous. But beauty aside, what I really love is that she has the perfect face for Aurora. High cheekbones, a dainty nose, full lips, and vivid eyes. I have nothing against others who cosplay her who have less accurate features, but it's nice to see someone that really encompasses the "Sleeping Beauty" look. And the dress......your talent with needle and thread is just astounding. Her dress looks far better than any of the others I've seen, even the ones based in Disney parks. Theirs look too....animated. You took a beautiful dress and brought it to life in a realistic way. I adore that the colors aren't garish, or in your face. The soft, muted pinks really suit her complexion, and the overall dress design on a whole.
.....absolutely kudos for the wig too, while I'm commenting/ranting. The curls are glorious, and I actually like her bangs. They frame her face very well. Plus, the crown just offsets the golden hair.
